     October 2017        NEWS BLAST

Hello Soroptimist trailblazers!

Happy Founders Day!  Our first club called its first business meeting to order on October 3, 1921.  Did those trailblazing first members expect to one day grow their gathering to over seventy-four thousand members holding meetings in over one hundred twenty countries and territories?  Do any of us understand the impact we would have when we first joined our organization?  Do we now?  Do we understand women with a mission on a mission to improve lives are only limited by our imagination and commitment?  We have done amazing work in our past but I’m excited for our programs, our organization, and our future as we celebrate 96 years!

I’m even more excited to see many of you at our upcoming Fall Meetings where part of our time will be an open forum to discuss your opinions, ideas, and expectations for our future along with learning what’s new about our organization.  And, I’m most excited about our New Member Welcome breakfast before each Fall Meeting.  Our new members since June 2015 have been invited to a breakfast on the Saturday morning of your Fall Meeting.  Please join us as a new member and/or encourage new members to attend!  Just RSVP to the Evite received by all new members.  Ninety-six years ago, a group of women first met to impact their community.  When we work together and stay focused, can you imagine the impact we can have in the next ninety-six years?  How can we not be excited!?!

Best wishes,
Governor Penny

Live Your Dream Award Deadline
The Soroptimist Live Your Dream Awards assist women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects.  The suggested deadline for your club to gather applicants is November 15, 2017.  The deadline to send your club’s LYDA recipient to your LYDA district representative is February 1, 2018.  A great Program would be to discuss economic empowerment using the Soroptimist White Paper research!  If you have questions about LYDA, contact your GWR chair Carolyn Lutz at clutz2765@gmail.com.
