Governor’s Message

Many of us have inspiring stories of how we became a Soroptimist.  Mine isn’t so much inspiring as it is the beginning of an amazing ride.  A friend invited me to a “wine and cheese party with very fun women” that of course ended with me writing a check for membership without even knowing how to say “Soroptimist” or what it means.  Now I know.  Being a member of Soroptimist is the best gift my friend ever gave me and the best gift I’ve ever given myself.  I’ve even passed this gift to others through the years.

During this holiday season, please share the gift of Soroptimist with leaders in your community and especially with
the amazing women in your life.  I’ll bet - decades later - they too will still say “thank you” for this amazing gift.

You may not know that you elected some crazy, fun women to the Golden West Region Board.

Jody Leber-Pay (SI Lake Havasu City) captured us during one of many silly moments and created this Christmas Wish for you from your Golden West Region Board.  Enjoy.

Merry Christmas from my family to yours, and love to you my friends!

IMPORTANT DUE DATES

  • December 1st: GWR Board of Directors Nomination application deadline to your GWR Nominating Committee district representative
  • December 10th: SI Presidents Appeal for 2017-2019

Although the Live Your Dream Award deadline suggested for clubs has passed, your club’s recipient application isn’t due to the Golden West Region until February.  Your club can decide to extend the deadline if you need more time.  If you haven’t found a recipient yet, please contact your LYDA district representative to see if other clubs have multiple applications.

We’d love for every applicant to receive some type of recognition.   Ideas Beyond the Cash Award  Remember, we
want to greatly reduce the 78% of eligible applicants who hear “no” from us.

The International President’s Appeal for 2017-2019 is Women, Water & Leadership.  This appeal supports projects that educate, empower, and enable women and girls to ensure they have the capacity, experience, and education needed to manage water resources and gain careers in water-related professions.  To find out more about the Women, Water and Leadership and how to donate, contact Chair of the International President’s Appeal, Hafdís Karlsdóttir, at hafids@in.is.  2017-2019 Presidents Appeal
